What You Should Do During A Car Crash

Have you ever had car problems while driving in the middle of the road? A sudden car breakdown is actually pretty unlikely unless you dont maintain your vehicle. Of course, Ive had the occasion to ride in quite a few vehicles whose owners probably never bothered to have their fan belts checked. Let me tell you, it was quite a harrowing experience. There was this one driver of an old Honda Civic wherein the car would literally start screeching inhumanly sounds whenever he turned on the ignition. My suspicion is that the fan belt was so old that it probably hadnt been changed for almost a decade.

What worried me is that with the fan belt in that condition, the vehicle probably hadnt been checked for a lot of other things. What if the brake lining gave way and I was in the vehicle during a collision? The driver seemed all cool with it, but I just knew in my mind that this car would soon be due for an automotive collision overhaul. Really, this car was just an accident waiting to happen.

Stay Calm After A Collision

In case an auto collision has occurred, remember to keep your wits about you. Staying calm during a car accident is what will save your life and the lives of the people around you. Whether you are one of the drivers or passengers involved in the accident or a passing motorist, there are some things that you can do to help out.

Ensure Your Safety

Before you attempt anything, if you are the one who has been involved in a car crash, ensure your own safety. Make sure that you are uninjured and safely exit your vehicle. Physically move yourself away from the car crash especially if there is a fire going on.

Check The Injured

Check to see if there are any injured individuals in the car crash. Assess your own ability to help them out without endangering yourself. Some people may be trapped in the wreckage. If you want to help out, make sure that you are not doing more harm than good.

Call In An Ambulance

Unless you are certain that no one has been injured severely, always call in an ambulance as soon as you have ensured your own safety.

Do Not Move Unconscious People Around

In a major car crash, there are bound to be quite a few injured individuals who may require emergency treatment. If you see someone lying on the ground but in no immediate danger, do not attempt to move this person. You may accidentally cause a fatal injury. The only time you should move someone is if you are in the middle of the highway and there is an immediate threat that this individual may be run over by a passing speeding vehicle.

Notify The Police

Notify the police of the accident. Whether there is a dispute or not, you are required by law to report the incident. File a report with the police or with an auto insurance agency. This will help in resolving liability claims in your favor later on.
